Dr. Vivek Phakey
MBBS (HONS), FRANZCO, FRACS
Dr. Vivek Phakey graduated with First Class Honours from Monash University in 1984 and completed his ophthalmology training in Melbourne and Glasgow before establishing Waverley Eye Clinic in 1994.

He is a general ophthalmologist with extensive experience in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the eye. Dr. Phakey’s particular interests include diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, retinal vascular disease (such as diabetic retinopathy), ocular inflammation, disorders of the eyelids, neurological diseases of the eye, paediatric eye conditions, ocular emergencies, macular degeneration including injection for Wet AMD, and cataract with state of the art small incision surgical techniques. Dr. Phakey also performes cosmetic Botox injections.

Dr. Phakey performs cataract surgery at Waverley Private Hospital in Mount Waverley and Victoria Parade Surgery Centre in East Melbourne. For the last 10 years, Dr. Phakey has been a committee member of the Waverley Private Hospital Medical Advisory Committee; serving as chairperson for the last four years.

Dr. Tow Teck Lim
MBBS, FRCOphth, FRANZCO
Dr Tow Teck Lim graduated from University College, University of London in 1989. He trained in Ophthalmology at the University Hospital in Nottingham before migrating to Australia in 1996. Dr Lim completed his ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) in 2001.

Dr Lim now practices as a general ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract surgery. He also performs eyelid surgery, laser treatments and cosmetic Botox injections. Dr Lim manages conditions such as Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration as well Diabetic Eye Disease. He operates at Victoria Parade Surgery Centre in East Melbourne.

Dr Lim sits on the Specialist International Medical Graduate Committee at RANZCO, which assesses qualifications of overseas trained ophthalmologists wanting to practice in Australia.

Dr Lim is fluent in Cantonese.

Dr. Renuka Bathija
MBBS, FRANZCO, FRACS
Renuka Bathija is a general ophthalmologist with a sub-specialty interest in glaucoma. Renuka completed her ophthalmology training from Melbourne University and subsequently completed her Glaucoma fellowship at Shiley Eye Center (University of California, San Diego). She is a glaucoma consultant at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, which provides state of the art laboratory and clinical research facilities for glaucoma, and is home to more than 100 staff. and has several scientific publications in the early detection of glaucoma.

Dr Bathija has been consulting at Waverley Eye Clinic since 1998 and provides a wealth of experience in general ophthalmology and in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma.

Dr. Janice Thean
MBBS (HONS), FRANZCO
Dr Janice Thean graduated with first class honours from Monash University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1996 and was awarded the only medal in the undergraduate Ophthalmology Prize Exam. She trained in Ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH). She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. After completing her specialty fellowship exams in 2003, she spent an elective year at the RVEEH gaining further experience in cataract surgery and was involved in high level research and teaching of ophthalmology specialty trainees. She has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals and has held consultant positions at the RVEEH and the Western General Hospital in Footscray.

Dr Thean is a general ophthalmologist who manages both adult and paediatric patients. Her main interest is cataract surgery including correction of astigmatism using Toric lenses but in addition, also treats conditions like Macular Degeneration with Lucentis injections. She is fluent in both written and spoken Mandarin, Cantonese, Foo Chow and Malay. She operates privately at the Vision Eye Institute in Box Hill and the Victoria Parade Surgery Centre in East Melbourne.
