There a few items to have in order before visiting our clinic:

1. A valid referral. Please ensure you organise a referral from your doctor or optometrist before visiting, so that you are able to submit a claim to Medicare for some reimbursement of fees.
2. Medicare card. The clinic will be unable to send your visit details to Medicare for you to receive a rebate without a valid Medicare card and referral.
3. Glasses. If you wear prescription spectacles, please bring them to your appointment so that we can test your eyes and discuss management of any change in your vision.
4. Ensure you have someone accompany you for your first appointment. You may require dilating eye drops which can blur your vision for about 3 hours and make driving difficult. If you are unsure whether you will need a dilated eye check, please call the clinic and advise reception of your reason for visiting. Our reception staff will consult with the clinical team to see whether you will likely require drops.
5. Keep a record of your appointment day and time. Inadvertently missing your appointment may result in a delay to rebook your appointment with the attending ophthalmologist.

In order for us to provide you with a thorough eye check, we conduct several tests throughout your appointment. Your appointment length will usually be around 1.5-2 hours and will involve the following:

1. Check in at reception with our friendly reception staff.
2. Orthoptic assessment. During the orthoptic assessment you will:
   1. Discuss with the orthoptist about your reason for visiting.
   2. Have your vision and eye pressure checked.
   3. If necessary, have further testing such as visual field testing, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) (images of the back of your eye), or an A-Scan for cataract surgery.
   4. If required, have eye drops instilled to dilate your pupils. This enables the ophthalmologist to check the back of your eye.
3. Ophthalmologist assessment. After seeing the Orthoptist, you will be required to wait a short while before seeing the Ophthalmologist. In this part of your appointment, the Ophthalmologist will further assess the reason of your attendance, perform a dilated examination, as well as review and discuss the results of the testing and examination conducted with the Orthoptist. The ophthalmologist will then determine an outcome and/or treatment plan.
4. You will have ample opportunity to discuss the examination findings and treatment, as well as ask any questions. You are encouraged to bring a support person to your consultation.
5. Check out. You will see our reception staff again to check out and organise any subsequent appointment if required.
